Would amend Criminal Rule 17.1(f) to combine subparts (f)(1) “telephonic pleas” and (f)(3) “remote pleas by interactive audiovisual means” to create one subpart, (f)(1) titled “remote pleas,” that would apply the same procedures to plea proceedings conducted by telephone and those conducted using an interactive audiovisual system. Makes conforming changes to Form 28.

Would amend Rule 17.1(f) of the Rules of Criminal Procedure to combine subparts (f)(1) and (f)(3) into a new (f)(1) applying the same procedures for plea proceedings conducted by telephone and those conducted using an interactive audiovisual system.

Comments must be submitted by no later than Friday, May 1, 2026, and any reply by a petitioner must be submitted no later than Monday, June 1, 2026.
